The Poem will be handed our during the first class on Monday.
Since it is January and it seems that Spring has no intention of gracing us with warm weather for quite some time yet, we may as well work on a few poems and stories that are somewhat light hearted. For this week’s poem, we will look at Robert Browning’s Soliloquy of a Spanish Cloister. Some things you will need to know in order to appreciate this poem are:
1. Who was Brother Lawrence?
2. What is life like in a Spanish cloister? That would include the hours that a monk would have to keep.
3. What is the three-fold vow of a Monk and how does that relate to the speaker?
4. What text in Galatians is the narrator referring to in line 29?
For your paragraph this week: explain how the envy and anger of the narrator twists his mind so that he does not even realize what he is doing or how he is breaking his own vows. This may take more than a paragraph this time.
The short story will be handed out during the second class on Monday.
The short story for this week is somewhat disconcerting in some ways. So often we are rather arrogant about what we believe others should be like. We just wish they could be like us. What happens when someone comes into a community that has a completely different culture than that person, and he tries to change it into his culture? This short story (and I mean short) tells a tale of what could conceivably happen in such a culture.
Before you go and say that you would never do that, take a hard look at yourselves first. What has happened here in North America with the First Nations people? Western Europeans came here and forced most of the First Nations people to accept, against their will, ways that were foreign to their culture. This has had disastrous results.
And what about Houston Christian students and teachers? Do we condescend to those around us, because we are so superior? I hope not but I know this short story was a bit of a shock to me as I read through it.
Paragraph for the week: How could healing and restitution begin to take place between the principal, the community and the inspector? What would each have to do in order for ‘education’ to begin in this village?
I don’t have Language Power with me so I will assign it on Monday.
Welcome back and Happy New year.

Brother lawrence is known today for his faithful closeness in his belief in chrsitianity.
As a young man gained mmuch appreciation and fame for his God lead life.
Spent a whole of his life in a monastary kitchen, due the the ill education he did not recieve.
despite his low position, his character attracted many to him. Known for his peacefulness and faith, brother lawrence is still known today
Brother Lawrence was born Nicholas Herman in Herimenil near Luneville in the region of Lorraine located in modern day eastern France.
He received a revelation of the providence and power of God at the age of 18.
Herman's poverty forced him into joining the army, and thus he was guaranteed meals and a small stipend.
Injury forced his retirement from the army, and after a stint as a footman, he sought a place where he could suffer for his failures. He thus entered the Discalced Carmelite monastery in Paris as Brother Lawrence.
1.Brother Lawrence, formerly named Nicholas Herman, was very close to God. He was a lay brother in a Carmelite Monastary. Though he was only educated enough to be a lay brother he was soon recognized for his great faith and is still remembered today.
Brother Lawrence was a very devoted monk who served in a spanish cloister. He fought in the thirty years war and came back to be.. a monk, working in mainly the kitchen. hes known because of his faith and devotion.
1)Brother Lawrence was born Nicholas Herman in Herimenil. At the age of 18 he received a relvelation of the providence and power of God. He was known for his profound peace and many came to seek spiritual guidance from him.
2. life in a spanish cloister was a quiet place for monks to meditate and live their secluded lives. Cloister's are attachements to churches, typically roofed corridors but open to the outside.
many common chores and activities were done here, such as cooking, washing, gardening. The cloister was just simply a place for monks to live in a secluded area. the hours of a monk were long and quiet, they spent many hours preparing food, washing clothes and many other chores.
1)Brother Lawrence was a very strong bielver a very faithful monk. He worked in a spanish cloister. He was very poor and had to work in the army than came back and worked in the kitchen at church.
2) For a monk the spanish cloister was a very relaxed place it was very calm. They did their daily activities here. Their hours were very long.
1. Brother Lawrance's real name was Nicholas Herman, he was born in France and fought in the Thirty Years War. He was a Lay Brother and gave the basis for the book "The Practice of the Presence of God". His poverty forced him to join the army where he experienced the beginning of his spirtitual journey.
2. Hours in a Monestery:
Vespers (at the end of the day)
Compline (upon retiring)
Vigils (sometime during the night)
Matins (at sunrise)
Prime (during the first hour of daylight)
Terce (at the third hour)
Sext (at the sixth hour)
None (at the ninth hour)
Vespers (at the end of the day)
Brother Lawrence was a lay brother in a Carmelite Monastary. He had supernatural insight into common things in life. his acual name was Nicholas Herman and his religious name was Lawrence of the Resurection. he fought in the 30 years war and was born in France.
2)The life of medieval monks were filled with the following work and chores:
Washing and cooking
Raising supplies of vegetables and grain
Reaping, Sowing, Ploughing, Binding and Thatching, Haymaking and Threshing
Producing wine, ale and honey
Providing medical
Providing education for boys and novices
Copying the manuscripts of classical authors
Providing hospitality
Within this, The monks had many positions including
Vespers (at the end of the day)
Compline (upon retiring)
Vigils (sometime during the night)
Matins (at sunrise)
Prime (during the first hour of daylight)
Terce (at the third hour)
Sext (at the sixth hour)
None (at the ninth hour)
Vespers (at the end of the day)
3) threefold vows of a monk in his life are chastity, poverty, and obedience. in the short story It somewhat relates in ther wrong way it should. The narrator displays a very bitter attitude, and jealousy of the others. in reality, He does not relate to these three vows.
4 things about Brother Larry-
He received a revelation of the providence and power of God at the age of 18. Took the religious name of "Lawrence of the Resurrection". The wisdom he shared in conversations and letters would become the basis for the book "The Practice of the Presence of God". Fought in the 30 years war before becoming a monk.
2)Washing and cooking for the monastery
Raising the necessary supplies of vegetables and grain
Reaping, Sowing, Ploughing, Binding and Thatching, Haymaking and Threshing
Producing wine, ale and honey
Providing medical care for the community
Providing education for boys and novices
Copying the manuscripts of classical authors
Providing hospitality for pilgrims
3) the three fold vow of a monk is chastity, poverty and obedience. He doesnt really follow these three vows.
3. The three fold vow is the vow all monks take to become a vow. the vow consists of 3 vows. the vow of poverty, the vow of obedience, and the vow of chastity. Monks vow to never own for themselves extravagent things, "unneccessary" objects unneeded to survive. They also vow to be obedient, unquestionable loyalty to the abbot, and to the word of god. Lastly they vow themselves to chastity, never to marry nor to ever have intimate relationships with women.
This vow is negated in the poem because of how the flowers are shown as a luxury, something the narrator despises Brother Lawrence of having. It is also showing the narrator's mental disloyalty to his cause.
3. The three vows that monks have to make are vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience. The speaker also has made these vows but he looks down on them and is bitter towards them.
Life in a Spanish cloister.
Here are what some of the hours are called:
Vespers (at the end of the day)
Compline (upon retiring)
Vigils (sometime during the night)
Matins (at sunrise)
Prime (during the first hour of daylight)
Terce (at the third hour)
Sext (at the sixth hour)
None (at the ninth hour)
Vespers (at the end of the day)
Life in a monastery is very quiet. A place for prayer and meditation.
The hours of a monk is...
Vespers (at the end of the day)
Compline (upon retiring)
Vigils (sometime during the night)
Matins (at sunrise)
Prime (during the first hour of daylight)
Terce (at the third hour)
Sext (at the sixth hour)
None (at the ninth hour)
Vespers (at the end of the day)
3)The Vow of Poverty
The Vow of Chastity
The Vow of Obedience
Brother Lawrence does not really follow the three-fold vow in which he is supposed to abide by.
4)I would have to say the sinful nature that is depicted in the short story are (galatians 5:19)Jealousy, selfish ambition, dissensions, and last ubt not least envy.
1. 4 very important points in his life:
He took on a religious name, “Lawrence of the Resurrection”
He was a man of wisdom and peace and many people were drawn to him for advice. The wisdom that was passed on to these people was later made into a book called, “The Practice of the Presence of God”
He was born with the name Nicholas Herman
Remembered by his closeness to God
2. Hours of a Monk would have to keep:
Vespers (at the end of the day)
Compline (upon retiring)
Vigils (sometime during the night)
Matins (at sunrise)
Prime (during the first hour of daylight)
Terce (at the third hour)
Sext (at the sixth hour)
None (at the ninth hour)
Vespers (at the end of the day)
3. The three fold vow of a monk is obedience, chastity, poverty.
4. Galations 5:19-21
“The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord…… esc.
4)The acts of sinful nature are obvious: idolatry, jealousy, fits of rage, drunkenness. found in Galatians 5:19
4) the 29 damnations the narrator was referring to im guessing is within the passage galatians 5:19-21. This is as quoted that passage,
"The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God."
these list pretty much explains itself. The narrator accuses Brother Lawrence of some of these acts, although in his rage he does not realize he himself is breaking some himself. He is blinded by his spite, and his poor following makes him oblivious to the laws in what they hold for him
2.Life in a monastery is spent doing chores like cooking and gardening. However there was also times when they had to do or attend specific things. These were:
Vespers (at the end of the day)
Compline (upon retiring)
Vigils (sometime during the night)
Matins (at sunrise)
Prime (during the first hour of daylight)
Terce (at the third hour)
Sext (at the sixth hour)
None (at the ninth hour)
Vespers (at the end of the day)
3.The vow of a monk has three requirements: chastity, poverty, and obedience. This is significant to what the narrator of this story is saying. He says that brother Lawrence was looking at women wrongfully and therefore being unchaste. He also points out lots of things that he thinks that brother Lawrence are doing that violate the vow of obedience to God. However he failed to see his own sins.
4.The text that the narrator is talking about is Galations 5:19. Here is listed numerous acts of sin, among these being sexual imorality, witchcraft, fits of rage and such.
The text that the narrarator is refering to is Galations 5:19 which talks about the acts of sinful nature.
1. Brother Lawrence was a lay brother in a Carmelite Monestery. Had a close relationship with God. Actual name was Nicholas Herman. He was born in eastern France. He was brought to his spirituality in a supernatural vision while he was in the army. He lived to be 80 years old. His thoughts and ideas became the basis of the book "The Practice of the Presence of God".
2. hours of a monk are:
Vespers (at the end of the day)
Compline (upon retiring)
Vigils (sometime during the night)
Matins (at sunrise)
Prime (during the first hour of daylight)
Terce (at the third hour)
Sext (at the sixth hour)
None (at the ninth hour)
Vespers (at the end of the day)
3. The three-fold vows of a monk are obedience, poverty and chastity. These relate to the speaker because he does not seem to live by these three.
4. The text in Galations being referred to is Galations 5 verse 19.
The ones that show up in this "story" are: Hatred, jelousy, envy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, and discord.
1. Who was brother Lawrence was born in Nicholas Herman. He was forced into joining the Army!
2. Vespers (at the end of the day)
Compline (upon retiring)
Vigils (sometime during the night)
Matins (at sunrise)
Prime (during the first hour of daylight)
Terce (at the third hour)
Sext (at the sixth hour)
None (at the ninth hour)
Vespers (at the end of the day)
3. Three vows of a Monk is Chasity, poverty, and obedience.
4.These distinct damnations are in Galatians 5:19-21. 19The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
1. Brother Lawrence was a lay brother in a monastery. He is remembered now for his close relationship with God as written in the classic Christian text, “The Practice in the Presence of God”. He took on the religious name “Lawrence of the Resurrection”. He spent almost all of the rest of his life within the walls of the priory, working in the kitchen for most of his life and as a repairer of sandals in his later years.
2. Vespers (at the end of the day)
Compline (upon retiring)
Vigils (sometime during the night)
Matins (at sunrise)
Prime (during the first hour of daylight)
Terce (at the third hour)
Sext (at the sixth hour)
None (at the ninth hour)
Vespers (at the end of the day)
In Galatians, the text that the narrator is referring to is chapter 5 verse 19. Here it notes sexual immorality, impurity, hatred, jealousy, fits of rage, and factions.
3. The threefold vows of a monk are chastity, poverty and obedience. The author is not very happy and does not relate to the three vows.
4. The passage that talks about the twenty-nine damnations are quoted in Galatians 5:19-21: “ Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, [1] drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God”
3. the threefold vow of a monk:
Poverty
Chastity
Obedience
QUESTION 1. !!!!Brother lawrence was a spanish mork who served in a cloister.
eventhough he was a lay brother he was still viewed as a strong Christian.
QUESTION 2. !!!!!
Life in a cloister was quite secluded. It was place to live and eat and sleep and to meditate.
QUESTION 3. !!!!
Chasity...ooooohhh
Obedience...aaahhhh
Poverty...hhhmmm
these are wierd cause every one of these are contradicted by the narrator.
QUESTION 4. !!!!
The acts of the sinfull nature are obvious....
sexual immorality, impurity, debauchery, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, discord, jealosy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, disensions, factions, envy and drunkeness....
3) The three-fold vow of a monk is chastity, poverty, and obedience.
The way it relates to the story is the the guy disobeys them all and does not agree with any of them.
Healing the restitution could begin between the head master, community, and the inspector by the master opening the path. Althuogh not without possibly fencing it so it does not interfere withthe school. Then the inspector could give the school another chance at the inspection. After This the community could donate to the school a new garden While doing this they could do it with the kids.
1. Brother Lawrence accepted God into his life at the age of 18. He had a very close personal relationship. Although he had to wait 6 years before he could join Discalced Carmelite Priory in Paris. Eventually Brother Lawrence became known as “Lawrence of the Resurrection”. Many people came to Brother Lawrence for spiritual guidance. The guidance that he gave was eventually conformed into a book called “The Practice of the Presence of God”. When Brother Lawrence was still young he was forced to join the navy because of his poverty (this was when he waited to join the group in Paris. He fought in the Thirty Year’s War.
2. Life in a Spanish cloister was relaxing and very quiet. A cloister was a building that often had four corridors. A monk could meditate and be very isolated here.
The hours of a monastery were:
Vespers (at the end of the day)
Compline (upon retiring)
Vigils (sometime during the night)
Matins (at sunrise)
Prime (during the first hour of daylight)
Terce (at the third hour)
Sext (at the sixth hour)
None (at the ninth hour)
Vespers (at the end of the day)
3. The three-fold vow of a monk includes chastity, poverty and obedience. The narrator of the story did recognize the vows but did not follow them.
4. The text that is referred to is Galatians 5:19. There is a list of numerous sins.
1. Brother Lawrence
-He accepted God into His life at the age of 18 but he had to wait another 6 years before joining the Discalced Caremlite Priory.
- Brother Lawrence fought in the 30 years war while he waited for those 6 years to pass.
- He ended up not having enough education to become a religious leader, so he spent the rest of his life repairing sandals.
- When he was a young man, he had to go to war, where he was guarenteed meals and a small stipend.
2. Life in the Spanish cloister was usually goverened by community rules. Life was different for different monestaries. Some members would be completely isolated for the everyday world. Others were forced to communicate with local communities.
THE HOURS FOR THE MONESTARY:
Vespers (at the end of the day)
Compline (upon retiring)
Vigils (sometime during the night)
Matins (at sunrise)
Prime (during the first hour of daylight)
Terce (at the third hour)
Sext (at the sixth hour)
None (at the ninth hour)
Vespers (at the end of the day)
3. The three-fold vow:
The vow of poverty, the vow of obedience, and the vow of chastity. I'm not too sure I understand how these three vows relate to the speaker.
4. The text is Galatians 5:19, where it talks about the acts of sinful nature.
The only possible way of healing and restitution to come and bring vindication of the community in peril is through empathy, compromise and understanding. The school was built with complete disregard to the local’s needs. If these locals were contacted and properly informed perhaps a compromise could have been undertaken. Instead, the headmaster, blind to other concerns, tried to make a stronger community by trying to dominate with building his school, instead of cooperate with the town. The headmaster of aboriginal origin as well, took on the aspect of a white man, and tried to take control, forgetting his roots and common ground with the aboriginal people in that town.
1. He received a revelation of the providence and power of God at the age of 18, his lowly character attracted many people to him. He was known for his profound peace and many came to him for spiritual guidance. For Brother Lawrence common business was the medium of God's love.
2. Life in a Spanish Cloister would consist of long hours and everyday tasks
3. The three-fold vow was of poverty, obedience and chastity
4. He is referring to Galatians 5:19-21
Healing and restitution could occur in this story if the inspector would let the path stay open. Keeping the path open would have been better for everyone. The inspector didnt really have a good reason to keep the bridge accessible. In the end not keeping the path led to more destruction then just the path but also other property of the school.
1. Brother Lawrence is remembered today as a stong christian who recieved a revelation of prvidence and power of God at the age of eighteen.
2. The hours of a day for a monk wnet like this vespers (at the end of the day), compline (upon retiring), vigils (sometime during the night), matins(at sunrise), prime (during the firsthour of daylight), terse(at the third hour), sext(at the sixth hour), none at the nineth hour)vespers(at the end of the day).
3. The three-fold vow of monk is chastity, poverty, and obedience. The speaker in this short story is very rude and wants things his way or no way so he really doesn't fit into this three-fold vow at all.Instead he is just about completely against them.
4. The text in Galatians that line twenty-nine refers to is Galatians 5:19-21. This text talks about acts of sinful nature.
1.) Brother Lawrence was born in 1614 near Luneville in the region of Lorraine, and passed away on Feb 1691.He was a lay brother and was known for having a closes relationship with God. At the age of 18 he received a revelation of the power of God. But it was another 6 years before he joined Discalced Carmelite Priory.
2.) The monk’s lives were filled with work and chores.
Washing and cooking. Raising supplies of vegetables and grain. Copying the manuscripts of classical authors. And probably many more I couldn’t find.
These are the hours the monks would keep.
Vespers (at the end of the day)
Compline (upon retiring)
Vigils (sometime during the night)
Matins (at sunrise)
Prime (during the first hour of daylight)
Terce (at the third hour)
Sext (at the sixth hour)
None (at the ninth hour)
Vespers (at the end of the day)
3.) The three fold vow of a monk is obedience, chastity, poverty. In the short story he doesn’t relate a lot to these three things. He actually the opposite of them. He displays great bitter against Brother Lawrence.
4.) The text is Galatians 5:19 which the narrator refers to. The verse talks about numerous sins
Dead Man's Path
Healing and restitution would be able to take place after after both sides opologize for the actions that were taken and reach a compromise. For The principal and the inspector to make restitution the principal would have to show the inspector that he has solved the conflict with the village about the path and prove that no more problems (that would threaten the school) would happen ever again.
ok, so I don't know if I'm supposed to post this on here or not, but, Cody did :)
"Dead Men's Path"
I think that we all have different opinions about everything. Whether it be silly little things or traditional beliefs. No what's up for discussion, not everyone is going to have the same opinion. This is kind of what happened with the headmaster and the priest and other towns people. The headmaster just comes bursting in and thinks that he can change things to the way that he wants it and thinks it should be. Obviously this path had be part of the villages believes and tradition to have and he came in and without even any discussion about it puts up a fence. I know I'd be upset if someone new came in and did that without really realizing what the path (or whatever it was) was all about.
In Galatians 5:19-21 it says sexual immorality, impurity, debauchery, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, discord, jealosy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, disensions, factions, envy and drunkeness.
I think that the path stays in the same because i think that they should respects the people that have died. The woman that died with her baby is not a good reason to break the path.
Dead Man's Path
Healing and restitution could begin to take place when all sides can agree on something. In this story some people wanted the path just because it was what they walked on. The principle however, didn't appreciate how lightly the path was being treated. So until all sides can learn to agree, healing and restitution will have to wait.
1.Brother Lawrence:
He was born Nicholas Herman in the region of Lorraine, located in eastern France.
He spent most of his life within the walls of the priory; he worked in the kitchen and a repaired sandals.
When he was a young man, he was forced to go to join the army and he was also guaranteed meals.
2.Life as a Spanish Cloister:
It was a very quiet place for the monks to mediate, they lived secluded lives.
The common chores were cooking, washing and gardening.
The hours were very long and quiet.
They spent many hours washing clothes and making meals for their families and other chores.
3.The three fold vows:
The first one was obedience
•The second one was chastity
•The third one was poverty
4. Referring to a passage:
The passage was Galatians 5:19-21
The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
The verse in line 29:
The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Galations 5: 19-21
Dead Man’s Path
Healing and restitution could be made very easily. However we are all corrupt and are sometime very hard to get along with. (Well, maybe not all) The Headmaster really should have some respect for tradition and religion. Even if you do not agree with something, it doesn’t mean you can have your way. Perhaps the Headmaster should respect his elders as well. I am not saying that the Headmaster is the only one that should be blamed, a compromise could be reached.
1) Brother Lawrence was 1) a lay brother in a Carmelite monastery, he could not become a monk because of he did not have the proper education 2) most commonly remembered for the closeness of his relationship to God and how he devoted his whole life to Him. 3) Brother Lawrence was a quiet man who spent all his time at the monastery in the kitchen with God. 4) Lived a very simple life that influenced many people then and now.
2) Life in a Spanish Cloister was dedicated to worship, reading, and manual labor. They also spent a lot of time in prayer and mediation. The following list is their chores:
Washing and cooking for the monastery
Raising the necessary supplies of vegetables and grain
Reaping, Sowing, Ploughing, Binding and Thatching, Haymaking and Threshing
Producing wine, ale and honey
Providing medical care for the community
Providing education for boys and novices
Copying the manuscripts of classical authors
Providing hospitality for pilgrims
The hours of the monk were:
Lauds : the early morning service of divine office approx 5am
Matins : the night office; the service recited at 2 am in the divine office
Prime : The 6am service
Sext : the third of the Little Hours of divine office, recited at the sixth hour (noon)
Nones : the fourth of the Little Hours of the divine office, recited at the ninth hour (3 pm)
Terce : the second of the Little Hours of divine office, recited at the third hour (9 am)
Vespers : the evening service of divine office, recited before dark (4 - 5pm)
Compline : the last of the day services of divine office, recited before retiring (6pm)
There were also many jobs that monks could be assigned to the include the following:
Abbot - the head of an abbey
Almoner - an almoner was an officer of a monastery who dispensed alms to the poor and sick
Barber Surgeon - the monk who shaved the faces and tonsures of the monks and performed light surgery
Cantor - the cantor was the monk whose liturgical function is to lead the choir
Cellarer - the cellarer was the monk who supervised the general provisioning of the monastery
Infirmarian - the monk in charge of the infirmary
Lector - a lector was a monk entrusted with reading the lessons in church or in the refectory.
Sacrist - the sacrist was the monk responsible for the safekeeping of books, vestments and vessels, and for the maintenance of the monastery's buildings
Prior - in an abbey the deputy of the abbot or the superior of a monastery t hat did not have the status of an abbey
BOLD-me
Not Bold-http://www.middle-ages.org.uk/daily-life-monk-middle-ages.htm
3) The three fold vow of a monk is to give up all earthly possessions-poverty, to be prepared to be completely and wholeheartedly obedient to the laws of God and the monastery-obedience, the third vow is to give up all sexual relationships with others and loving God above all else-chastity. I think that the speaker has every intention to follow this vow. It is evident that he is jealous of Brother Lawrence, loving God means loving others, and the speaker obviously doesn’t love Brother Lawrence. The speaker also lusts after the ladies, Matthew 5:28- But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
4) In line 29 of the poem the speaker is referring to Galatians 5:19-21. This, what he is wishing Brother Lawrence to ‘trip’ on, is very harsh, and I suppose that it is not very monk like at all according to the three fold vow that the speaker took.
i think thats all....
Healing and restitution can begin to take place when both sides come together to talk about the issue at hand. In this case the issue is the use of the trail through the school yard. Although many want it because it is something that has always been there in their culture and the other side is that they want to take the path out so the school yard can look good for an inspection that is coming up soon. One way to fix this problem is maybe to make both sides happy. This could be done by telling people to stay off the path until the inspection is done. Then after that reopen the path for some users. In this way both sides can be happy and the healing and restitution can be over.
Greetings from alberta. ITS ME!!!!!! Just reading a couple of your guys' blogs. First of all, it appears to me that your not writing proper english here. Too many of the "ne" and "lol". So if you folks wouldn't mind starting to use proper english. I must not have taught you well enough. Your blogs are definetly not as long as I would like to see, but after reading them, they are, for the most part, written quite well. Well, thats all for me for this evening. Take care, and keep up the great work.
VANDENBORN! we miss you greatly, your jolly laugh and catchy smile are of fond memory to us all... Good day
I believe the only way healing and restitution could occur in such a situation would be with obediance, mercy, and humbleness. Micheal Obi was very strict and ignorant in my opinion with the villager's issue. With the vandalism, I would hope that M.r Obi became more humble of the situation, and realize his possesions/work should not overlap or thus be more important than others. I would also have to concur, that the villager's actions were quite irrational and harsh, but in theory still quite humbling towards Obi. In conclusion, healing and restituition can only happen when both sides realize the importance of eachother, and take the time to further interpret each situation

Dead Man Path
Healing and restitution would be able to take place if the inspector would have just let them keep the path open. If they would have let the path stay open it would have been a good thing for most people. But in the end since they closed the path and the girl died while giving birth meaning it was a horrible plan.
